Hyderabad police achieved a major breakthrough after the Begum Bazar Police arrested a habitual house burglar and recovered stolen gold ornaments and cash collectively worth around ₹30 lakhs.
The accused, identified as Amar Sonkambale (20), was apprehended on May 17 during an investigation into a house burglary case registered at Begum Bazar Police Station under the Goshamahal Division.
According to police officials, the accused is originally from Udgir village in Maharashtra’s Latur district and was currently residing in Kishan Bagh, Hyderabad. He was reportedly working as a waiter at function halls in the city.
Gold and Cash Recovered
Police recovered:
- Gold ornaments weighing approximately 206 grams
- Cash amounting to ₹2,14,600
The total value of the recovered property is estimated to be nearly ₹30 lakhs.
Details of the Burglary
The case relates to a house break-in that occurred during the early hours of May 6 at Hindi Nagar in Goshamahal.
Unknown persons allegedly entered the residence of complainant M. Krishna and stole gold ornaments and cash from the house. Following the complaint, Begum Bazar Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.
CCTV Footage Helped Police Trace Accused
During the investigation, police teams analyzed CCTV footage from nearby areas and identified the suspect. The accused was later tracked down and arrested on May 17.
Officials said the stolen property was recovered from his possession during the operation.
Accused Linked to Multiple Cases
Police revealed that Amar Sonkambale is allegedly involved in several criminal cases in Hyderabad city, including:
- Three house burglary cases
- One POCSO-related case
Investigators said the accused allegedly committed thefts to fund an extravagant lifestyle and meet personal expenses.
Police Team Praised
The case was solved by the Begum Bazar Police crime team under the supervision of ACP Goshamahal Division and senior officers of the Golconda Zone.
Police officials praised the investigation team for quickly identifying and apprehending the accused using technical evidence and surveillance footage.
