Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on July 25, taking moral responsibility for the nationwide controversy over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak and the growing student protests across the country. His resignation came after weeks of demonstrations led by students demanding accountability, education reforms and strict action against those responsible for exam irregularities.
The protests, led by the youth group Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), spread across several cities, with thousands of students gathering in New Delhi and other parts of the country. Protesters accused the government of failing to prevent repeated examination paper leaks and demanded transparent recruitment and entrance examination systems.
Following Pradhan’s resignation, the Central Government held talks with representatives of the protesting students. After the discussions, the government accepted several key demands, including:
- Withdrawal of FIRs filed against student protesters.
- Introduction of stricter anti paper leak laws and examination reforms.
- Financial assistance for families of students reportedly affected by the NEET controversy.
- A commitment to improve transparency and accountability in national entrance examinations.
After the government’s announcement, CJP leaders declared that they were ending the nationwide protest “In good faith” They urged demonstrators to leave protest sites peacefully while stating that they would continue to monitor the implementation of the government’s promises.
The resignation is being seen as one of the most significant political developments related to the NEET controversy. Opposition parties welcomed the decision, calling it a victory for students and democratic protest, while the government said the move was aimed at restoring public confidence in India’s examination system.
