Hyderabad: The Goshamahal Police have arrested two persons for allegedly cheating a grain trader of ₹7.48 lakh by procuring pulses and other food grains on credit and failing to make the promised payments.

The arrested accused have been identified as Akunuri Ashok (60), proprietor of Dhanalakshmi Traders, and Dharmendra Singh (25), his driver.

According to police, the case came to light after Roopchand Solanki, a businessman from Begum Bazar’s Feel Khana area, lodged a complaint on July 5. He alleged that the accused purchased pulses and grains from him by assuring that the payment would be made shortly. However, despite repeated follow-ups, they failed to clear the dues, causing a loss of ₹7,48,367.

Based on the complaint, Goshamahal Police registered a case and launched an investigation. During the probe, officers collected crucial evidence, including invoices, cheques and bank return memos. The two accused were taken into custody on Sunday, and two mobile phones allegedly used in the commission of the offence were seized.

The accused were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. Police said further investigation is in progress.

Police Advisory to Traders

Following the incident, Hyderabad Police urged traders, wholesalers and business owners to exercise caution while extending goods on credit. They advised businesses to:

  • Verify the credibility of customers before offering credit.
  • Maintain proper invoices and payment records.
  • Avoid supplying goods solely on verbal assurances or post dated cheques without proper verification.
  • Report any suspected fraud or suspicious business transactions to the nearest police station without delay.

The operation was carried out by the Goshamahal Police under the supervision of Golkonda Zone DCP J. Raghavendar Reddy, ACP K. Chandrasekhar Reddy, and SHO B. Shravan Kumar, along with their team.
