AIMIM floor leader and Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi has strongly defended the Barrister Fatima Owaisi Educational Institutions after the Telangana High Court sought records related to the campus, which faces allegations of being constructed within the Full Tank Level (FTL) area of Salkam Cheruvu lake in Hyderabad.

Addressing a public gathering on Sunday (July 5), Owaisi declared:

“If one institution is demolished, we will build ten more. Even if the buildings are taken away, I will sit under a tree and teach my children. I will never bow before anyone.”

He alleged that certain people were using their authority to target educational institutions associated with him and insisted that the institutions would continue to function “Come what may”

Why is the campus under scrutiny?

The controversy centers on the Barrister Fatima Owaisi Educational KG-PG Campus, which is alleged to have been built within the FTL area of Salkam Cheruvu in Hyderabad’s Old City. A public interest petition claims the campus was constructed on protected lake land and that authorities failed to act.

During a recent hearing, the Telangana High Court expressed dissatisfaction with the responses of government departments and noted:

  • The School Education Department stated it had not granted permission for the institution to operate at its current location.
  • The court directed the GHMC, HMDA and other departments to submit all construction permissions, approvals and relevant records within one week.
  • The court warned that appropriate orders would be passed if the required documents are not produced.

Political reactions

The issue has also triggered a political confrontation. BJP leaders, including G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, accused the Telangana government of shielding the AIMIM and questioned why action had not been taken against the institution while demolitions were carried out elsewhere.
