Saifabad Police Arrest Notorious Chain Snatcher

The Special Crime Team of the Commissioner’s Task Force (CCS), Hyderabad City, in coordination with Saifabad Police, has apprehended a notorious and habitual chain snatcher allegedly involved in more than 180 chain snatching cases across Telangana.

The accused has been identified as Mohammed Faisal Shah Ali Jabri, also known by several aliases including Abdullah, Sohail and Altaf. The 43 year old resident of Murad Nagar in Asif Nagar, Hyderabad, had been evading arrest since 2023 after allegedly committing a series of chain snatching offences in different parts of the city.

According to police, the accused was involved in multiple cases registered under the limits of Saifabad, Moghalpura, Charminar and Nampally police stations. Following these offences, he reportedly absconded and managed to evade law enforcement agencies for nearly three years.

Investigators revealed that the accused is a habitual offender with as many as 14 pending Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs) against him. After fleeing Hyderabad, he allegedly moved to Bengaluru and later shifted to Rayachoti in Andhra Pradesh, where he is suspected of committing additional chain snatching offences.

Acting on credible intelligence, the CCS Special Crime Team and Saifabad Police launched an operation and successfully traced and apprehended the accused.

Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to verify his involvement in other pending cases and to gather additional evidence related to the offences committed across multiple jurisdictions.

The arrest is being viewed as a significant breakthrough for Hyderabad Police in their efforts to curb chain snatching crimes and bring long absconding offenders to justice.
