Health authorities in Bengaluru have issued a precautionary alert after a suspected case of Ebola virus disease was reported in the city, prompting emergency monitoring and containment measures.
According to officials, the patient recently travelled from an African country where Ebola cases have previously been reported. The individual reportedly developed symptoms associated with viral haemorrhagic fever, leading doctors to isolate the patient and inform state health authorities.
Samples have been sent to a specialised laboratory for confirmation, and officials clarified that the case is currently only “Suspected” and has not yet been confirmed as Ebola.
As a precaution, the Karnataka Health Department has activated surveillance protocols at hospitals and airports. Contact tracing efforts have also begun to identify people who may have come in close contact with the patient.
Medical teams have advised the public not to panic, stating that strict isolation and infection control procedures are being followed. Health officials said the patient is under observation at a designated medical facility in Bengaluru.
Ebola is a rare but serious viral disease that spreads through direct contact with bodily fluids of infected individuals. Symptoms can include fever, weakness, vomiting, diarrhoea and internal bleeding in severe cases.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation while awaiting final test results. Further updates are expected once laboratory reports are received.
