Hyderabad Man Arrested for Impersonating Police Using AI Videos

Fake “Police Officer” Arrested in Hyderabad

In a significant crackdown on online misinformation, the Commissioner’s Task Force (Rajendranagar Zone), in coordination with Kalapathar Police, has arrested a man for impersonating a police officer and circulating fake videos on social media to gain followers.

Accused Apprehended

The accused, identified as Mohammed Abubakar Ali Tabassum (27), a delivery executive, was apprehended within the limits of Mailardevpally Police Station.

According to police, he created and uploaded fabricated videos portraying himself as a police official, misleading viewers and potentially causing public alarm.

Use of AI and Fake Content

Investigations revealed that the accused used AI-based software to produce manipulated videos.

  • He falsely presented himself as a police officer
  • Displayed weapons in videos to appear authentic
  • Circulated the content on social media to attract followers and attention

Police said such content could mislead the public and create fear or confusion.

A case has been registered under:

  • Section 205 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) (impersonation)
  • Sections 66 & 66D of the IT Act (cyber offences, cheating by impersonation)

During the operation, police seized:

  • One mobile phone used in the crime (valued at ₹10,000)

Further investigation is ongoing to identify if others were involved in creating or spreading the fake content.

Police Response

The operation was carried out by the Task Force team under the supervision of DCP Vibhav Gaikwad (IPS).

The Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, appreciated the efforts of the Rajendranagar Task Force and Kalapathar Police for their swift action.

Police have urged citizens to:

  • Avoid believing or sharing unverified social media content
  • Rely only on official and trusted sources
  • Report suspicious or fake posts to local police or cyber crime authorities
