NCERT Apologises to Supreme Court, Withdraws Class 8 Textbook

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has issued an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court of India and withdrawn a Class 8 textbook following concerns raised during court proceedings.

The issue came to light after certain content in the textbook was challenged, prompting the court to seek an explanation from the national education body. During the hearing, NCERT acknowledged the concerns and assured the court that the matter would be addressed promptly.

In its response, NCERT told the court that the textbook in question would be withdrawn and reviewed to prevent similar issues in the future. The organization also assured that future publications would undergo stricter checks before being released for schools.

The Supreme Court took note of the apology and the assurance given by NCERT regarding corrective measures. Officials said the review process would focus on ensuring accuracy and compliance with academic and legal standards.

NCERT is responsible for developing school curricula and textbooks used across many schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education and other education boards in India. The development has drawn attention to the importance of careful review and oversight in educational material used by students across the country.

Education experts say the move highlights the need for strong quality control in school textbooks to maintain academic integrity and avoid future controversies.
