The Central government has informed Lok Sabha that four ports are currently under construction in Andhra Pradesh, as part of efforts to strengthen India’s maritime infrastructure and expand coastal trade capacity.
According to the Government of India, the new ports are being developed to support increasing cargo movement, improve logistics connectivity, and promote industrial growth along the eastern coastline. These projects are aligned with national port-led development and coastal economic corridor plans.
Officials stated that the ports will handle a variety of cargo, including bulk commodities, containers, and industrial materials. Once operational, they are expected to reduce pressure on existing ports and cut transportation costs for exporters and importers.
The construction work is progressing in phases, with supporting road and rail links also being planned to ensure smooth movement of goods to and from the ports. The projects are expected to generate direct and indirect employment in port operations, transport, warehousing, and related services.
Andhra Pradesh, which has one of the longest coastlines in the country, is being positioned as a major maritime hub on the east coast. The new ports are likely to strengthen the state’s role in regional and international trade while contributing to local economic development.
Government officials added that environmental safeguards and regulatory clearances are being followed during construction to ensure sustainable port development.
With these four ports under development, Andhra Pradesh is set to witness a significant boost in shipping capacity and industrial activity in the coming years.
