Guwahati: The Election Commission has published the final electoral roll for Assam ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, showing that 2,43,485 names have been removed during the special revision process.
Final Voter Count
The updated voter list now includes 2,49,58,139 registered voters across Assam’s 126 Assembly constituencies. This is a decline of nearly one per cent compared to the draft roll issued in December 2025, which had over 2.52 crore voters.
Reason for Deletions
The deletions followed a Special Revision exercise carried out through a state wide house to house verification drive between November and December 2025. Officials also opened a window for claims and objections from the public between late December 2025 and January 2026.
Electoral authorities said names were removed after identifying:
- Duplicate entries
- Deceased voters
- Migrated or ineligible voters
- Incorrect or unverifiable records
The aim of the revision was to ensure an accurate and error free voter list before elections.
Gender wise Voter Data
According to official figures:
- Male voters: 1,24,82,213
- Female voters: 1,24,75,583
- Third Gender voters: 343
Appeal Process
Voters whose names have been deleted but believe they are eligible can:
- File an appeal before the District Magistrate within 15 days
- File a second appeal before the Chief Electoral Officer within 30 days
Elections Ahead
The Assam Assembly elections are expected in March – April 2026. Officials said finalising the voter list early is critical to ensure transparency and smooth conduct of polls.
Election authorities have urged citizens to verify their names in the electoral roll and report any errors immediately.
