Hyderabad Traffic Police conducted a two day special drive against drunken driving on February 6 and 7, 2026, as part of efforts to enhance road safety across the city. During the operation, a total of 604 motorists were caught driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to official data, the majority of offenders were two wheeler riders, accounting for 492 cases. Another 42 cases involved three wheeler drivers, while 70 cases were booked against four wheeler and other vehicle drivers.

Breath Alcohol Concentration (BAC) analysis revealed alarming levels of intoxication among offenders. Of the total cases, 141 drivers recorded BAC levels between 30 and 50, while 238 drivers fell in the 51 – 100 range. Another 127 drivers had BAC readings between 101 and 150. Higher levels were also detected, with 61 drivers registering between 151 and 200, 25 between 201 and 250, seven between 251 and 300, and five drivers recording BAC levels above 300.

Traffic police officials said the drive was aimed at preventing road accidents and ensuring safer travel for commuters. They reiterated that there would be zero tolerance for drunken driving and warned that strict legal action would be taken against violators.

“Driving under the influence poses a serious threat to both the driver and other road users. Such special drives will continue in the coming days to curb reckless behavior and improve road safety,” an official statement said.

Hyderabad Traffic Police also appealed to commuters to cooperate with enforcement personnel and strictly follow traffic rules. Authorities emphasized that responsible driving is essential to prevent accidents and save lives, urging citizens to avoid alcohol consumption before driving and to use public transport or designated drivers whenever necessary.
