“Green Means Our Party Flag, Not Religion”: Sahar Yunus Shaikh Clarifies at Mumbra Press Meet

Sahar Yunus Shaikh AIMIM Corporator MUMBRA

AIMIM corporator from Mumbra, Sahar Yunus Shaikh, on Thursday addressed the media to clarify her recent victory speech that triggered political controversy and police action. Speaking firmly at a press meet, Sahar said her remarks were misinterpreted deliberately and had no communal intent.

Referring to her viral statement about “Painting Mumbra Green” Sahar explained that she was only talking about AIMIM’s party colour, not religion or any community.

“Green is the colour of our party flag. When politicians from other parties talk about saffron or orange, no one objects. When I speak about green, suddenly it is given a different meaning” she said.

Sahar questioned why her words were being selectively targeted and said the controversy was being created to distract from her electoral victory. She maintained that her speech reflected political confidence and enthusiasm, not hatred or division.

“My win was not easy to digest for some people. That is why my words are being twisted,” she added.

Responding to the police notice issued to her, Sahar said she respects the law and the Constitution and will cooperate fully. However, she also stressed that freedom of expression should apply equally to all political leaders, regardless of party or identity.

“If talking about my party symbol is considered a crime, then the same rule should apply to everyone,” she said.

The AIMIM corporator also appealed for calm and said she stands for peace, development and democratic politics in Mumbra. She accused opposition parties of trying to communalise a political statement for their own benefit.

Sahar Yunus Shaikh, one of the youngest elected corporators in the region, concluded the press meet by asserting that she would not be intimidated and would continue to raise people’s issues without fear.
