Telangana Govt Orders Major IPS Reshuffle, 32 Officers Transferred in One Go

32 Officers Transferred in One Go

In one of the biggest police reshuffles in recent years, the Telangana government has issued orders transferring 32 IPS officers, affecting key positions across the state. The transfer orders were released through G.O. Rt. No. 1632 by the General Administration (Special-B) Department.

Senior officers, district police chiefs and several officers from recent IPS batches have been reassigned, marking a significant restructuring in the state’s policing administration.

According to details from the transfer order, senior officer D. S. Chauhan has been appointed as the Additional Director General of Police (Personnel) alongside an additional charge of another ADG role. Several other high ranking officials have been posted to strategic positions in Law & Order training and intelligence units.

This reshuffle also impacts District policing, with multiple Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) moved to new assignments. Newly promoted and field trained IPS officers from the 2017 – 2023 batches have also been given crucial postings in districts and city units.

One of the Largest IPS Only Transfers in Recent Times

While large reshuffles are not new in Telangana transferring 32 IPS officers in a single order stands out among recent administrative actions. Earlier this year in March 2025, the government had transferred 21 IPS officers, while previous changes were smaller in scale.

Administrative analysts note that since late 2023, Telangana has seen Frequent reshuffles across IAS, IPS and IFS cadres, with some officers reportedly moved four to five times within two years, raising concerns about continuity in policy execution and district administration.

Possible Reasons Behind the Major Reshuffle

Although no official statement has been issued on the rationale, experts cite multiple possible reasons:

  • Post election administrative re-alignment
  • Strengthening Law and Order in key districts
  • Placing experienced officers in sensitive areas
  • Career track postings for younger IPS officers

Such large scale changes often reflect a government’s effort to align the law enforcement setup with evolving governance goals and district challenges.

Public and Administrative Impact

Frequent changes may bring fresh leadership and new strategies, but they can also disrupt ongoing policing initiatives, particularly in Cybercrime, Narcotics control and Community policing.

However, officials familiar with the development indicate that the move aims to “Bring efficiency and a new direction to district policing.”
