IMD Issues Cold Wave Alert for Five Telangana Districts as Temperatures Dip Sharply

Cold Wave Alert in Telangana

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Cold wave alert for five districts in Telangana, warning residents to prepare for significantly lower temperatures over the next two days. Several parts of the state, including Hyderabad, have already begun experiencing unusually chilly mornings and evenings.

Districts Under Alert

The IMD has placed the following districts under cold wave warning:

  1. Adilabad
  2. Komaram Bheem Asifabad
  3. Nirmal
  4. Kamareddy
  5. Medak

These northern and central districts are expected to witness night temperatures dropping to 8 – 10°C, with some locations potentially dipping even lower due to dry northeasterly winds.

Hyderabad to Stay Cold Too

While Hyderabad is not under an official cold wave warning, the city is expected to continue experiencing Cool, Breezy conditions, especially during early mornings. Minimum temperatures in parts of the capital are likely to settle between 12 – 14°C.

Reason Behind the Temperature Drop

Meteorologists attribute the cold spell to:

  • Clear skies allowing rapid night time cooling
  • Dry continental air from North India pushing south
  • Weak northeasterly wind patterns dominating the region

These factors together have created ideal conditions for a cold wave in pockets of Telangana.

IMD Issues Advisory

Residents in the affected districts have been advised to:

  • Wear adequate warm clothing
  • Avoid exposure to cold wind during early morning and late night
  • Take extra care of children and the elderly
  • Monitor weather updates regularly

Farmers have also been asked to take protective measures for livestock, especially those kept in open sheds.

Cold Conditions to Persist

According to weather officials, the cold wave conditions may continue for the next 48 – 72 hours before temperatures gradually rise.
