US Enforces Iran Sea Blockade, Tehran Calls Move “Illegal”

Naval patrol in the Strait of Hormuz

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced that its maritime blockade on Iran is now fully implemented, stopping most sea based trade to and from the country.

US officials say ships heading to Iranian ports are being warned or turned back as part of strict enforcement. The move comes after talks between the US and Iran failed, with Washington aiming to increase pressure on Iran’s economy, especially oil exports.

China Angle

Some vessels linked to China were reportedly given limited or conditional passage, while others were redirected. China has criticized the blockade, warning it could disrupt global trade and increase tensions.

Iran’s Reaction

Iran has strongly condemned the US action, calling it illegal and an act of “Piracy” Iranian officials warned that if their maritime security is threatened, regional stability could be at risk, signaling possible retaliation.

Tehran also said it has the right to defend its waters and national interests if the blockade continues.

Key Points

  • Blockade mainly targets ships linked to Iran
  • Not a full shutdown of global shipping routes
  • Risk of further escalation remains high

Big Picture

The situation marks a serious escalation between the US and Iran. With strong reactions from Iran and concerns raised by other countries, tensions in the region remain high and uncertain.
