Narayanguda Police of the Khairthabad Zone have arrested two persons in connection with a series of laptop thefts and recovered 19 stolen laptops worth around ₹7.6 lakh.
The arrested persons have been identified as 29 year old Sangishetty Vineeth, the alleged theft offender, and 29 year old Vemunuri Srinivas, who police identified as the receiver of the stolen laptops.
According to police, the accused were involved in laptop thefts reported in different parts of Hyderabad City, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri Commissionerates. Police said the recovered laptops are connected to 16 theft cases.
19 Laptops Recovered
Police recovered a total of 19 laptops, including:
- 7 Dell laptops
- 6 HP laptops
- 3 Lenovo laptops
- 2 Acer laptops
- 1 Asus laptop
The total value of the recovered laptops is estimated at ₹7.6 lakh.
How the Theft Was Carried Out
- According to police, the main accused targeted study halls, particularly during lunch and dinner breaks. He allegedly looked for laptops that students had left unattended while they went out to eat.
- Police said the accused committed several thefts within a short period and later sold the stolen laptops to the receiver.
- The investigation linked the accused to cases registered at several police stations, including Saifabad, Malakpet, Narayanguda, Abids, SR Nagar, Nallakunta, Chaitanyapuri, Kushaiguda, Uppal, LB Nagar, Alwal and Kukatpally.
Narayanguda Laptop Theft Case
- One of the cases was registered at Narayanguda Police Station under Crime No. 302/2026, Section 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
- Police said the complainant, V. Suresh, had left his HP laptop at Cabin No. D18 of Bright Minds Study Hall on August 16 while he went to the hostel for food. When he returned around 8 PM, he found that the laptop was missing.
- Following the complaint, Narayanguda Police examined CCTV footage and technical evidence to identify the suspect.
- Police subsequently apprehended the alleged offender near the Parsigutta-Secunderabad area and continued the investigation, which led to the recovery of several stolen laptops and the identification of the alleged receiver.
Police Team Appreciated
- The operation was carried out under the guidance of K. Shilpavalli, IPS, DCP, Khairthabad Zone.
- The police team included M. Saideshwar, SHO Narayanguda, along with B. Abhilash, DI and C.H. Nagaraju, DSI, and the crime staff of Narayanguda Police Station.
- Senior officers appreciated the efforts of the police team in tracing the accused through CCTV footage and technical evidence and recovering the stolen laptops.
Police said further investigation is underway to establish the full details of the thefts and the disposal of the stolen property.
