The Commissioner’s Task Force, Charminar Zone, in coordination with Balapur Police, busted an interstate ganja peddling racket and arrested three accused, seizing 22.22 kg of dry ganja valued at approximately ₹12 lakh.

The operation was carried out near Sadat Nagar Bus Stop in Shaheen Nagar, Balapur, on July 21. Police also seized four mobile phones, two trolley bags, and one backpack used in transporting the contraband.

The arrested accused have been identified as Mirza Jaffer Baig alias Saddam (35), Awad Bin Ali Yafai alias Awad (22) and Sardar Manpreet Singh Dhillon alias Dhillon (22), all residents of Hyderabad.

According to the investigation, the accused allegedly sourced the ganja from Berhampur, Odisha, and transported it to Hyderabad for illegal distribution. To avoid police detection, they reportedly travelled by train up to Khammam and then switched to a bus for the remaining journey. Police intercepted them while they were allegedly waiting to deliver the consignment to a customer.

Further investigation revealed the suspected involvement of Ibrahim Bin Saleem Baamar alias Ibrahim Baamar of Balapur, who allegedly arranged the procurement and transportation of the contraband, and Janni alias Sunny of Berhampur, Odisha, believed to be the supplier. Both suspects are absconding and efforts are underway to trace and arrest them.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Sri S. Saidababu, Inspector of Police, Charminar Zone Task Force, along with officers of the Task Force and Balapur Police Station.
