The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana, extending the house to house enumeration process by 10 days, from July 24 to August 3, 2026. The decision was taken to give Booth Level Officers (BLOs) additional time to complete voter verification across the state.
Key Changes in the Revised Schedule
- House to house verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will now continue until August 3.
- Rationalisation and reorganisation of polling stations will also be completed by August 3.
- The draft electoral roll will be published on August 10.
- Citizens will have an opportunity to file claims and objections regarding voter details after the draft roll is released.
- The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 12.
Why Was the Schedule Extended?
The Election Commission extended the timeline after Booth Level Officers reported that more time was needed to complete door to door verification. Political parties had also sought an extension, citing delays in distributing and collecting enumeration forms in some areas.
What Voters Should Do
- Cooperate with Booth Level Officers during house to house verification.
- Ensure personal details provided in the enumeration form are accurate.
- Check the draft electoral roll after its publication on August 10.
- Submit claims or corrections within the prescribed period if any errors are found.
Why the SIR Matters
The Special Intensive Revision aims to keep Telangana’s electoral rolls accurate by:
- Adding eligible new voters.
- Removing duplicate, deceased, or shifted voters.
- Correcting errors in voter records before upcoming elections.
