Hyderabad Traffic Police are considering a new one way traffic system in the busy Lakdikapul area to reduce congestion and ensure smoother movement of vehicles. Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, conducted a field inspection on Friday to assess traffic conditions and examine the feasibility of the proposed changes.
The Commissioner travelled on a motorcycle through key roads and junctions, accompanied by Traffic Joint Commissioner D. Joel Davis, IPS, and DCP-1 Avinash Kumar, IPS. The inspection covered Dwaraka Hotel, Old Saifabad Police Station, HDFC Junction, Iqbal Minar, Ravindra Bharathi, Lakdikapul Junction and Old Control Room Junction.
During the inspection, the Commissioner reviewed traffic congestion points and suggested measures to prevent accidents and ensure uninterrupted vehicle movement.
Proposed One Way Traffic Arrangements
- Under the proposed plan, vehicles travelling from Old Control Room towards Iqbal Minar and Secunderabad would be diverted through HDFC, Old Saifabad Police Station and Secretariat Junction instead of proceeding directly through Ravindra Bharathi.
- Similarly, vehicles travelling from Nirankari Junction towards Old Control Room would be diverted near Old Saifabad Police Station and routed through Iqbal Minar and Ravindra Bharathi.
- Vehicles coming from Secretariat Junction and Telangana Thalli Flyover towards Old Saifabad Police Station would follow an alternative route via Iqbal Minar, Ravindra Bharathi, Old Control Room, Assembly Gate No. 3 and HDFC.
Trial Run Before Permanent Implementation
- Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar stated that a coordination meeting would soon be held with GHMC, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), the Electricity Department and other concerned agencies before taking a final decision.
- He clarified that the proposed traffic arrangement would initially be implemented on a trial basis. Its effectiveness and impact on commuters would be assessed before deciding on permanent implementation.
- The Commissioner also said that the police were examining the possibility of introducing one way traffic systems in other congested areas across Hyderabad wherever necessary. He appealed to motorists to cooperate with the police for improved traffic management and safer travel.
Additional Traffic Lane Planned at KBR Park
- Following the Lakdikapul inspection, the Commissioner also reviewed the existing one way traffic arrangement around KBR Park.
- After personally inspecting the route on a motorcycle, he stated that an additional traffic lane would be made available alongside the existing one way arrangement to manage increasing vehicle congestion.
- He explained that underground pipelines, electricity poles and other utility infrastructure obstructing the proposed additional lane would be shifted on a priority basis by the concerned departments.
- The Traffic Police, GHMC and construction agencies are coordinating to implement the necessary changes and improve traffic flow around KBR Park.
- The Hyderabad Police Commissioner reiterated that scientific traffic planning and coordination among government departments are essential to addressing the city’s growing traffic challenges and ensuring safer, smoother journeys for commuters.
