The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the schedule for biennial elections to 28 Legislative Council seats from Graduates and Teachers constituencies in Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
State-wise Seats
- Uttar Pradesh: 11 seats – 5 Graduates and 6 Teachers
- Bihar: 8 seats – 4 Graduates and 4 Teachers
- Maharashtra: 5 seats – 3 Graduates and 2 Teachers
- Karnataka: 4 seats – 2 Graduates and 2 Teachers
Election Schedule
- Notification: September 29, 2026
- Last date for nominations: October 6
- Scrutiny: October 7
- Withdrawal: October 9
- Polling: October 23, 8 AM – 4 PM
- Counting: October 27
The ECI said the Model Code of Conduct comes into immediate effect in the concerned Graduates and Teachers constituencies across the four states.
The elections are being held as the terms of the sitting Legislative Council members are due to expire.
