HYDERABAD: Two separate drug-related operations reported in Hyderabad on September 12, 2026, have once again highlighted the growing challenge posed by the illegal supply and transportation of narcotic substances.
In the first case, Habeeb Nagar Police arrested four people and seized 21 kilograms of dry ganja, along with mobile phones and Rs.25,000 in cash. Police said the accused were allegedly part of an inter state supply network involving Maharashtra and Hyderabad.
According to police, two of the accused allegedly transported the ganja from Maharashtra to Hyderabad, while two others were allegedly involved in local transportation and distribution. Police said the accused were apprehended before the suspected consignment could be distributed to local customers.
In a separate operation, the Commissioner’s Task Force, Secunderabad Zone, along with Kachiguda Police, arrested two alleged inter state drug offenders near Kachiguda Railway Station. Police seized around 21.2 kilograms of ganja, one litre of hash oil and two mobile phones. The seized material was valued at approximately Rs.23 lakh, according to police.
Police said the two accused allegedly came to Hyderabad to sell the drugs and claimed that the substances had been purchased from a person in Odisha who is currently absconding.
A Growing Concern Beyond Seizures
- The two cases, involving large quantities of narcotic substances, raise concerns about how drug networks continue to operate across state borders and reach urban areas.
- At the same time, the seizures also demonstrate the continuing efforts of Hyderabad Police and the Commissioner’s Task Force to identify and disrupt these networks.
- However, arrests and seizures alone cannot completely address the problem. Drug abuse can affect Young people, Families, Education, Employment and Public safety. The availability of illegal substances in local communities makes prevention and awareness equally important.
Police Action Must Be Supported by Public Awareness
- The police have appealed to citizens to share credible information about the Sale, Transportation, Storage, Procurement or consumption of narcotic substances.
- Public cooperation can play an important role in identifying drug networks at an early stage. Parents, educational institutions, community leaders and residents also have an important role in creating awareness among young people about the serious risks associated with drug abuse.
- The repeated registration of drug cases and seizures should not become something society simply gets used to. Every such case should serve as a warning that stronger prevention, awareness and community participation are needed.
The message is clear: fighting drugs is not only the responsibility of the police. It is a responsibility shared by the entire community.
