The Telangana government has announced that candidates from the state who successfully clear the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination will receive ₹1 lakh in financial assistance under the Rajiv Gandhi Civils Abhaya Hastham scheme. The assistance is aimed at helping aspirants prepare for the Mains examination without financial constraints.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said the initiative is intended to encourage talented youth from economically weaker backgrounds to pursue careers in the civil services. The scheme is open to eligible candidates from Telangana who meet the prescribed income and eligibility criteria.
The government said 346 UPSC aspirants have already benefited from the scheme over the past two years. During the first year of implementation, 140 candidates received ₹1 lakh each, with 20 reaching the interview stage and 7 ultimately securing positions in the civil services, highlighting the scheme’s positive impact.
Officials said the financial support will continue to strengthen Telangana’s efforts to produce more IAS, IPS, IFS, and other civil service officers by reducing the economic burden on deserving candidates.
