Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has launched a fresh attack on the Samajwadi Party (SP), claiming that opposition parties have become uneasy over the BSP’s efforts to attract Brahmin voters ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
In a post on social media, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said that the BSP’s decision to give greater representation to upper-caste communities, especially Brahmins, has created “Restlessness” among rival parties. She alleged that the Samajwadi Party is particularly worried about the growing support the BSP is receiving from the Brahmin community.
Mayawati said the BSP has started fielding Brahmin leaders as candidates and strengthening its outreach among upper-caste voters while continuing to focus on its traditional support base. According to her, this strategy has unsettled opposition parties that are trying to consolidate anti BJP votes ahead of the state elections.
The remarks come amid increasing competition among major political parties in Uttar Pradesh to attract Brahmin voters, who are considered an influential electoral group in several regions of the state. The BJP, SP and BSP have all intensified their outreach efforts as preparations for the 2027 Assembly polls gather pace.
Mayawati has repeatedly highlighted the BSP’s 2007 electoral success, when the party formed a majority government through its Dalit Brahmin social coalition. Political observers believe the BSP is once again attempting to revive that formula in an effort to regain lost political ground in Uttar Pradesh.
The latest comments are also being viewed in the context of recent political discussions surrounding Brahmin representation and outreach campaigns by various parties. With the Assembly elections still months away, competition for key voter groups is expected to intensify further.
