Arab Islamic Nations Condemn Ben Gvir Over Gaza Flotilla Detainees

Arab Islamic Nations Condemn

Foreign ministers from eight Arab and Islamic countries have strongly condemned Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir over the reported treatment of detainees linked to a Gaza bound aid flotilla.

The joint condemnation came from the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Turkiye, Indonesia and Pakistan following reports that activists and detainees from a Gaza aid flotilla faced harsh treatment after being intercepted by Israeli authorities.

According to reports, the flotilla was attempting to deliver humanitarian assistance to Gaza amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis and blockade affecting the Palestinian territory. Israeli forces reportedly stopped the vessels and detained several activists and crew members involved in the mission.

The eight countries accused Ben Gvir of encouraging policies that violate humanitarian principles and increase tensions in the region. In a joint statement, the ministers reportedly called for the humane treatment of detainees and urged Israel to respect international law and humanitarian obligations.

The statement also criticised what the ministers described as escalating Israeli actions in Gaza and warned that continued tensions could further destabilise the Middle East. Several of the countries called for immediate international intervention to protect civilians and ensure humanitarian access to Gaza.

Itamar Ben Gvir, known for his hardline nationalist views, has frequently faced criticism from Arab countries and international rights groups over his statements and policies regarding Palestinians and security operations.

The condemnation comes at a time of growing international concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, where shortages of food, medicine and fuel continue to worsen amid ongoing conflict and restrictions on aid delivery.

Israeli officials have defended security measures around Gaza, saying inspections and interceptions are necessary to prevent weapons smuggling and protect national security. However, critics argue that humanitarian missions should be allowed safe passage under international supervision.
