A special court in Hyderabad has convicted a 52 year old man in a case involving harassment of a minor girl, delivering a prison sentence and fine.
Hon’ble G. Uday Bhaskar Rao, Special Sessions Judge for POCSO cases at HACA Bhavan, found the accused, Chuvva Veeresh, guilty under Sections 354, 354-A, 509 of the IPC and Section 11 read with 12 of the POCSO Act. The court sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment of 1 year, 3 months, and 23 days, along with a fine of ₹1,500.
According to police, the incident took place when the 11 year old victim was returning home after buying groceries. The accused allegedly stopped her, forced her into his house, and behaved in an inappropriate manner. The girl managed to escape and informed her mother, after which a complaint was filed at the Chikkadpally Police Station.
Following the complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation. The victim was referred to the Bharosa Centre, where her statement was recorded and she received counselling, emotional support, and continued assistance throughout the legal process.
Officials said the conviction was possible due to coordinated efforts between the police, prosecution, legal counsellors, and support staff. Senior officers from the Women Safety Wing closely monitored the case to ensure timely justice.
