The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Telangana, Sudarshan Reddy, has said that preliminary arrangements are underway for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the state’s electoral rolls.
According to the CEO, the official notification for the SIR process is likely to be issued in April or May. Preparatory activities have already begun to ensure the revision is carried out smoothly and transparently.
As part of the exercise, Mr Reddy recently held a meeting with representatives of recognised political parties. During the interaction, he urged parties to nominate booth level agents and emphasised the need for close coordination throughout the revision process.
To improve accuracy and accountability, the CEO recommended that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) be appointed from among local residents who are familiar with their polling areas. He said this would help in faster verification and better resolution of voter related issues.
Officials are currently mapping voters from the 2025 electoral roll with entries from the 2002 SIR database using both desktop analysis and field verification. In urban localities, BLOs have begun door to door visits to identify and confirm residential addresses.
The CEO explained that BLOs will visit each polling area three to four times during the SIR period. The first visit will be for distributing enumeration forms, while subsequent visits will focus on verifying households that were unavailable earlier.
He clarified that voters who are not included in the preparatory mapping exercise will still have the opportunity to submit their details once the SIR officially begins.
Mr Reddy added that greater involvement of political parties at the booth level would help reduce complaints and ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral roll.
This update is based on official statements from the Telangana CEO’s office regarding ongoing preparations and expected timelines.
