The Hyderabad Traffic Police will begin continuous special drives against motorists driving without a valid Driving Licence (DL) from March 1, 2026, in an effort to improve road safety and reduce accidents.
In an official statement, the Traffic Police urged all commuters to strictly carry a valid driving licence while operating any vehicle. Citizens who do not possess a licence have been advised to obtain one from the Road Transport Authority (RTA) before driving on city roads.
Authorities said that a significant number of road accidents in Hyderabad involve drivers who do not hold a valid driving licence. The special enforcement drive aims to curb this trend and ensure that only authorised and trained drivers are allowed to use public roads.
The police also warned vehicle owners against permitting their vehicles to be driven by unlicensed persons. Allowing an individual without a valid driving licence to operate a vehicle is a punishable offence under traffic laws, officials said.
Another major concern highlighted by the department is insurance liability. In case of an accident involving an unlicensed driver, insurance claims may be rejected, leading to serious financial losses and legal consequences for the vehicle owner and driver.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police have appealed to the public to cooperate with enforcement personnel and strictly follow traffic regulations in the interest of public safety.
The announcement was issued by D. Joel Davis, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Hyderabad.
