Uttarakhand Police Identify Accused in Mohammed Deepak vs Bajrang Dal Case

Dehradun: In a significant development in the Mohammed Deepak vs Bajrang Dal case, the Uttarakhand Police have identified the individuals who were earlier described as “Unidentified miscreants” in the First Information Report (FIR). The case, which had triggered public debate over accountability and selective naming in police complaints, is now moving into a clearer investigative phase.

The FIR was initially registered after Mohammed Deepak alleged that he was attacked and threatened in connection with an alleged dispute involving members of a right wing outfit. While the complaint named Bajrang Dal in the narrative, the attackers were recorded as “unknown persons,” raising questions about whether specific individuals were being shielded.

Police Say Suspects Traced

According to police sources, the investigation team has now traced the identities of those involved based on CCTV footage, mobile phone records, and witness statements. Officials stated that the earlier description of the attackers as “Unidentified” was procedural, as their identities were not confirmed at the time of registration of the FIR.

“The investigation has progressed and we have identified the persons who were involved in the incident. Further legal action will be taken based on evidence” a senior police officer said, adding that arrests or notices may follow after verification and legal formalities.

Allegations of Bias

The case gained traction after Mohammed Deepak and his supporters claimed that naming a group while keeping individuals “unknown” created confusion and risked communalising the issue. Civil rights activists also questioned why specific names were not included despite the complainant’s claim that the attackers were known to him.

Legal experts pointed out that FIRs can legally mention “unknown persons” when immediate identification is not possible, but stressed that police must update records once identities are established.

Political and Social Reactions

Opposition leaders in Uttarakhand accused the state administration of initially handling the case loosely and demanded strict action against the culprits irrespective of political or ideological affiliations. Meanwhile, Bajrang Dal representatives denied organisational involvement and stated that the incident was being portrayed in a misleading way.

“We have nothing to do with this attack. If any individual is guilty, action should be taken against them personally” a local functionary of the organisation said.

What Happens Next

Police officials confirmed that supplementary statements and additional sections of law may be added to the case based on the new findings. The investigation is now focused on establishing motive, verifying whether the assault was organised or spontaneous, and determining if any wider network was involved.

The identification of the accused marks a key step in the case, shifting it from an ambiguous complaint against “unknown miscreants” to a targeted criminal investigation. Authorities have assured that the law will take its course and that no one will be spared if found guilty.
