Telangana Issues Urgent ‘Stop‑Use’ Notice for Almont Kid Syrup

The Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) has issued an urgent advisory instructing the public to immediately stop using Almont Kid Syrup, a medicine commonly prescribed to treat allergies, hay fever and asthma symptoms in children.

Reason for the Advisory

The notice was issued after the DCA received an alert from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), following laboratory tests that found the syrup adulterated with Ethylene Glycol (EG), a highly toxic substance. Ethylene Glycol contamination has been linked to serious health risks, including poisoning if ingested, particularly in children.

Product Details

  • Product: Almont‑Kid Syrup (used for paediatric allergies-asthma)
  • Batch Number: AL‑24002
  • Manufacturer: Pharmaceutical firm based in Bihar

Official Directives

The DCA has directed all drug inspectors and assistant directors across Telangana to:

  • Immediately alert retailers, wholesalers, distributors and hospitals about the issue.
  • Freeze and recall any available stocks of the affected batch from circulation.
  • Ensure that the syrup is not dispensed or sold under any circumstances.

Public Safety Advice

The public has been strongly advised to stop using the syrup if they have it in their possession and to report the product to the nearest Drugs Control Authority without delay. People are also encouraged to report possession directly to the Telangana DCA through the available toll free helpline. 📞 1800‑599‑6969

Government Monitoring

The DCA has initiated enforcement measures and is actively monitoring the situation to prevent further health risks. Authorities emphasise caution and urge parents and caregivers to be vigilant, given that the product is intended for children and could pose severe health hazards if contaminated.

In brief

Telangana’s health regulatory body has issued an urgent stop‑use notice for Almont‑Kid Syrup after tests detected toxic ethylene glycol in a specific batch. Officials are recalling the product, alerting medical suppliers, and advising the public to report and discontinue its use to safeguard children’s health.
