Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strategic Ali al-Taher Heights in southern Lebanon no longer poses a threat to Israel, following Israeli military operations in the area.
The ridge, located near Nabatieh in southern Lebanon, has become a major flashpoint between Israel and Hezbollah. The area is strategically important because of its high elevation and its view over nearby villages and roads.
Netanyahu said Israeli forces had killed a large number of Hezbollah fighters in the area and claimed that the military operation had removed the threat from the strategic heights.
The Israeli military has also said that its forces gained operational control of the Ali al-Taher ridge. According to the Israeli military, troops cleared Hezbollah fighters from underground routes in the area. Some fighters were reportedly killed while others fled.
However, Hezbollah has disputed Israel’s claims of complete control of the area and has maintained that its fighters are capable of defending the region.
