Mailardevpally Police have detained two children in conflict with law (CCLs) in connection with a series of automobile theft cases and recovered eight two wheelers, according to a police press note.
Police said the case came to light after a resident of TNGOs Colony, Mailardevpally, reported that his Activa 125 bearing registration number TG 07 AH 9555, which had been parked in front of his house, was missing.
According to the complaint, the vehicle was parked at around 3:00 am on September 20. At around 9:00 am, the complainant noticed that the scooter was missing and searched the surrounding area but could not locate it.
Police said a Ganesh pandal was also set up in front of the house and that a speaker from the pandal was found missing. Based on the complaints, cases were registered at Mailardevpally Police Station under Sections 305(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Following the complaints, Mailardevpally Police formed special teams and examined CCTV footage from various locations using technology to trace those allegedly involved in the thefts.
During the investigation, police detained two CCLs, aged around 13 and 14-15 years, and recovered eight automobiles/two wheelers.
The police press note identified the two CCLs as minors from the Nallacheruvu and Kukatpally areas. Their identities have not been disclosed in view of their age.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of S. Srinivas, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajendranagar Zone, and A. Sudhakar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Chandrayangutta.
The operation was led by Mailardevpally SHO Ch. Srinivas, along with DI Md. Maqsood Ali, DSI B. Venugopal and the crime staff of Mailardevpally Police Station.
Police said further investigation is underway.
