Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) has alleged a major coal scam involving the state owned Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), claiming that nearly 40 lakh metric tonnes of coal worth around ₹1,600 crore have gone missing from company stockyards.
In a letter addressed to Union Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy, KTR demanded an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the alleged disappearance of the coal. He questioned how such a large quantity of coal, reportedly recorded in official stock records, could vanish without accountability.
According to KTR, coal that should have been present in SCCL stockyards was allegedly diverted and sold illegally, causing a substantial financial loss to the public sector company. He claimed that records showed coal stocks across several mining areas, including Mandamarri, Srirampur, Ramagundam, Bhupalpally, Yellandu and Sathupalli, but alleged that physical verification revealed significant discrepancies.
KTR accused both the ruling Congress government in Telangana and the BJP-led Central government of failing to act on the alleged irregularities. He called for a judicial inquiry headed by a sitting judge and demanded that an all-party delegation be allowed to inspect the mines and stockyards.
The BRS leader also warned that if no action is taken, his party, along with Singareni workers, would launch protests to protect what he described as one of Telangana’s most valuable public sector institutions.
As of now, these remain allegations made by KTR, and no official investigation report has been released publicly to confirm the alleged ₹1,600 crore loss.
