Narayanguda Police Nab Two in ATM Cheating Case

The Narayanguda Police Station busted an attention diversion racket and arrested two accused involved in cheating people at ATM centres in Hyderabad.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammed Salman (26), a Rapido driver and Azaan Tauqeel Khan (19), a student. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Modus Operandi

According to police, the accused targeted victims at ATM cash deposit machines. They would offer to transfer money via digital payment apps like GPay in exchange for cash. After collecting the cash, they showed a fake “Transaction successful” screen without actually transferring the money and fled the scene.

One such incident was reported on April 13 near an SBI ATM beside Tajmahal Hotel, where a victim was cheated of ₹20,000.

Investigation & Arrest

Using CCTV footage and technical analysis, police identified and tracked the accused, eventually apprehending them near Malakpet.

During interrogation, the duo confessed to their involvement in at least five similar cases registered across multiple police stations, including Narayanguda, Masab Tank, Sultanbazar, IS Sadan and Domalguda.

Police Action

The operation was carried out under the supervision of senior officials of the Khairatabad Zone. The officers involved were commended for their swift action and effective investigation.
