Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over a tragic mishap in Katihar that has led to loss of lives and injuries.
As of now, official authorities have not released a confirmed final death toll, but early reports indicate that several people have died and many others were injured in the incident. Rescue teams and local administration reached the spot quickly and began emergency operations, shifting the injured to nearby hospitals.
In his message, the Prime Minister said he was “Deeply saddened” by the tragedy and extended condolences to the bereaved families. He also wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
The Prime Minister announced ex-gratia compensation from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF):
- ₹2 lakh for the families of each deceased person
- ₹50,000 for the injured
Officials said that relief and rescue operations are ongoing, and all possible assistance is being provided to those affected. Authorities are also expected to conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of the mishap.
Meanwhile, the local community remains in shock as support efforts continue for victims and their families.
