Indian carriers Air India and IndiGo have announced further changes to their international flight schedules due to rising security concerns linked to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
Air India said it has extended the suspension of several services to and from West Asian destinations as a precautionary measure. The airline cited airspace restrictions, safety advisories, and operational challenges as key reasons behind the decision. Passengers affected by the suspension have been offered refunds or alternative travel options.
IndiGo, India’s largest low cost carrier, has also reduced the frequency of some Middle East routes and rerouted select flights to avoid sensitive airspace. The airline said it is closely monitoring developments and coordinating with aviation authorities to ensure passenger safety.
The flight disruptions come amid escalating hostilities in parts of the Middle East, raising concerns about missile activity, drone attacks, and potential risks to commercial aviation. Several international airlines have already limited or halted operations over conflict prone regions in recent days.
Aviation officials said airlines are following global safety protocols and advisories issued by international aviation bodies. They added that route planning and real-time risk assessments are being continuously reviewed to avoid potential threats.
Travel industry experts warned that prolonged instability could lead to higher airfares and longer travel times due to detours, especially for passengers traveling between India, Europe and the Gulf region.
Passengers have been advised to check their flight status before heading to airports and remain in contact with airlines for updated schedules.
The situation remains fluid and both carriers said further changes could be made depending on security developments in the region.
