India Plans Evacuation of Nationals Amid Worsening Security Situation

India Plans Evacuation from Iran

India has begun making contingency plans to evacuate its nationals from Iran as protests intensify and the overall security situation continues to deteriorate, according to official sources.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is closely monitoring developments in Iran and is coordinating with Indian missions in the region to ensure the safety of Indian citizens. Officials said preparations are being made to facilitate the return of Indians who wish to leave, especially students, professionals, pilgrims, and workers currently residing in protest affected areas.

Sources indicated that evacuation efforts may include special chartered flights, subject to airspace availability and security clearances. Commercial travel options are also being explored for those able to depart independently. Indian authorities are compiling updated data on nationals in Iran and urging them to remain in contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran.

The Indian Embassy has advised its citizens to exercise maximum caution, avoid non-essential travel, and stay away from protest sites. Indians have also been encouraged to keep essential documents ready and follow official advisories issued by the embassy and the MEA.

The move comes amid widespread demonstrations across Iran, triggered by domestic political and economic grievances, which have led to clashes in several cities. Communication disruptions and restrictions in parts of the country have added to concerns over the safety of foreign nationals.

Officials emphasized that the evacuation plan is precautionary and will be scaled up depending on how the situation evolves. India has previously conducted large scale evacuation operations from conflict zones and has the logistical capability to respond swiftly if required.

The MEA reiterated that the safety and well being of Indian nationals abroad remains a top priority and assured that further updates would be issued as the situation develops.
