Seasonal Influenza Cases Rise in India, But Deaths Remain Low

Influenza Cases Rising in India Stay Cautious!

India has reported a noticeable rise in seasonal influenza cases in 2025. As of September 30 the country recorded 3,320 cases of Influenza A (H1N1), with only 14 deaths marking a four year low in mortality.

Health authorities note that the increase in cases is consistent with seasonal patterns, particularly in regions experiencing cooler temperatures and higher humidity. Strains such as H3N2 and Influenza B (Victoria) have been detected in several states, contributing to the overall rise in infections.

The reported cases are spread across multiple states, including Karnataka, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Delhi and Tamil Nadu. In Bengaluru, hospitals have reported 8 – 20 Patients daily presenting with Fever, Cough and Cold reflecting the seasonal surge in respiratory infections.

Despite the rise influenza activity remains within expected seasonal levels and no nationwide outbreak or epidemic has been declared. Experts attribute the low death rate to improved medical care early detection and heightened public awareness.

Authorities advise the public to maintain good hygiene, avoid crowded indoor spaces where possible and ensure vaccination particularly for vulnerable populations such as the elderly and people with chronic illnesses.
