Trump Praises PM Modi, Signals Positive Momentum in India – US Trade Deal

India - US Trade Deal

U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed strong confidence that the United States and India will soon reach a positive trade agreement, describing the ongoing negotiations as moving in the right direction. Speaking on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump said, “We are going to have a good deal.”

During his remarks, Trump praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a fantastic leader and a friend, and highlighted the strong personal rapport between the two leaders. He said he has “great respect” for PM Modi and emphasized that India – US relations are built on mutual trust and shared strategic interests.

The comments come amid ongoing discussions between the two countries over a bilateral trade agreement, aimed at expanding economic cooperation and reducing trade barriers. Both sides have been holding multiple rounds of talks to address issues such as tariffs, market access and regulatory concerns.

While Trump’s tone was optimistic, he did not announce any final agreement or timeline. Officials from both countries have maintained that negotiations are still underway and that any deal must be balanced and mutually beneficial.

Trade between India and the United States has grown steadily in recent years and both governments see the partnership as strategically important, especially in sectors such as manufacturing, technology, defence, energy and services. The proposed agreement is expected to further strengthen economic ties and boost bilateral trade volumes in the coming years.

Despite unresolved challenges, Trump’s latest remarks signal a positive political push toward finalizing a deal, reinforcing the importance Washington places on its economic and strategic relationship with New Delhi.
