The Tolichowki Police of Hyderabad’s South West Zone have busted a five member extortion gang that allegedly targeted individuals by posing as “Society members” and threatening to misuse private videos. Five accused were arrested while the prime accused remains absconding.

According to police the case was registered as Crime No. 333/2025 under Sections 308(2) and 126(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following a complaint lodged on December 26, 2025, by Sri Junaid Makhdoomi (32), an Amazon employee.

The complainant stated that on the night of December 21, 2025, while visiting a female friend at Akbarpura, MD Lines, Tolichowki, a group of men forcibly entered the house claiming to be representatives of the local society. The accused allegedly recorded videos on their mobile phones and threatened to circulate them on social media and file false police cases unless money was paid.

Under intimidation, the victim was allegedly forced to transfer ₹46,000 through the Cred application.

Acting on credible intelligence, Tolichowki police apprehended the accused during the midnight hours of December 27, 2025, near Al Kabir Restaurant at Tolichowki X Roads. During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to the crime and revealed that the extorted money had been spent during a trip to Sangareddy.

Arrested Accused:

  • Mohd Muzamil (23) Student

  • Mohd Imran Ahmed (22) Student

  • Mohd Shanawaz (22) Construction Salesman

  • Quizar Hussain (22) Student (Account Holder)

  • Shaik Amir Ahmed (22) AC Technician

All the arrested accused are residents of Akbarpura, Tolichowki.

Property Seized:

  • Four mobile phones

The arrested individuals were produced before the Honorable XVII Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Nampally and were remanded to judicial custody. Meanwhile, A1, identified as the prime accused is currently absconding and police teams are making sustained efforts to trace and arrest him.

The case was successfully detected by Sri G. Raghavendra, Sub Inspector of Police, along with the Crime Team of Tolichowki Police Station, under the supervision of Sri L. Ramesh Naik, Station House Officer, Tolichowki, whose prompt and professional action led to the swift detection of the crime.

Police have warned the public to remain cautious and report any instances of blackmail extortion or impersonation immediately to law enforcement authorities.
