The Telangana government will inaugurate 65 Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs) statewide on September 27, transforming existing Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to sharpen skills in areas such as robotics, industrial automation, electric vehicles (EVs), the Internet of Things (IoT), and 3D printing.

Key Details

  • The ATCs are being set up at a total cost of approximately ₹2,380 crore. The state contribution is ₹363 crore, and the remainder is funded by Tata Technologies.
  • Each centre will have workshops of about 13,500 square feet, equipped with modern machinery and infrastructure to support the new courses.
  • There will be six long term courses and 23 short-term courses offered. These are aimed at making students job ready in fast-growing tech sectors.

Admissions & Seats

  • For the 2025 – 2027 academic cycle, the long-term course seats (11,008) have already been nearly fully filled, with 99% admissions completed.
  • Short term courses are expected to begin admissions next year, with around 1.25 lakh seats planned for them.

Purpose & Impact

  • The initiative is meant to align youth skills with industry needs, especially within the context of Industry 4.0 and the growing demand for technically trained workers in automation, EVs, robotics, and related fields.
  • Officials say that upgraded courseware and trained instructors will help Telangana attract more investment and improve employability among young people.
  • Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will personally inaugurate the ATC in Mallepally, while other centres will be opened by ministers and MLAs across different districts.

Challenges Ahead

  • Ensuring consistent quality across all 65 centres will be pivotal.
  • Maintenance, staffing, and timely placement of students graduating from these courses will determine the success of the program.
  • Making sure these centres are accessible to rural students and bridging any infrastructure gaps in remote areas are also challenges to watch.
