The Telangana Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a statewide enforcement drive against unsafe school transportation, aiming to ensure the safety of students commuting to and from educational institutions.
Strict Checks Across the State
As part of the crackdown, RTA officials have been directed to identify and inspect all vehicles used for student transport including School buses, Private vans and Autos. Vehicles found overloaded operating without valid fitness certificates or violating safety norms under the Motor Vehicles Act will be seized immediately.
Accountability of Schools and Parents
The Transport Department has made it clear that schools and colleges share responsibility for student safety. Educational institutions have been instructed to maintain complete records of vehicles used by students and ensure compliance with prescribed safety standards. Parents may also be questioned if students are found travelling in unauthorized or unsafe vehicles.
Action Against Repeated Violations
District Transport Officers have been asked to take strict action against repeat offenders. In serious or repeated cases, authorities may recommend review of school permissions or recognition if institutions fail to ensure safe transport arrangements.
Monitoring and Coordination
District collectors will oversee implementation through coordination between transport and education departments. Special inspection drives will be conducted during school hours and joint checks will be carried out regularly to curb unauthorized and unsafe transport practices.
RTA officials stated that the drive reflects the government’s commitment to zero tolerance for negligence when it comes to the safety of schoolchildren.
