The Telangana High Court has directed the State Government not to dispossess landowners whose land is being acquired for a proposed Six lane greenfield radial road project planned from the Outer Ring Road interchange at Raviryala to Meerkhanpet in Rangareddy district. The order was issued on Friday as the court heard objections from more than 80 landowners challenging the legality of the acquisition process.
A bench presided over by Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar passed the directive while hearing petitions filed by landowners who say the acquisition process is Arbitrary and unlawful. The petitioners also complained that proper legal procedures under the Land Acquisition Act were not followed.
The court’s interim order instructs the state not to take possession or dispossess landowners until the matter is finally decided. The bench emphasized that status quo must be maintained and the acquisition process is subject to the final orders of the court. The next hearing in the matter has been scheduled for December 29, 2025.
During the hearing, the petitioners counsel argued that the acquisition lacked due process alleging that landowners were not given opportunities for personal hearings or to file objections before the competent authority. They also raised concerns over the absence of environmental clearances and procedural lapses from the very beginning of the acquisition.
In response, the state’s advocate general informed the court that only consent awards covering about 69 acres out of the total of approximately 447 acres required for the road project have been issued so far and that no dispossession has occurred for the petitioners at this stage. Despite this, the court maintained the stay order, recording the submissions and adjourning further proceedings.
The greenfield radial road project is a significant infrastructure development aimed at improving connectivity around Hyderabad, but the High Court’s order underscores the importance of ensuring Due process, Legal compliance and Protection of landowner rights throughout land acquisition proceedings.
