Telangana Govt Launches New Scheme for Women’s Self-Help Groups with 70% Subsidy

Telangana Govt Boosts Women

The Telangana government has announced a new welfare scheme aimed at strengthening women’s Self Help Groups (SHGs) by providing up to 70% subsidy support to promote sustainable livelihoods. The initiative, titled Indira Dairy Programme, focuses on empowering women through dairy based income generation.

Key Features of the Scheme

Under the scheme, women SHG members will be provided milch animals such as cows or buffaloes at a highly subsidised cost. The government will bear 70% of the total unit cost, while the remaining 30% will be arranged through bank loans or beneficiary contribution, making it easier for women to start dairy enterprises.

Each unit generally includes two dairy animals, and the subsidy amount can go up to ₹1.4 lakh per unit, significantly reducing the financial burden on beneficiaries.

Pilot Project and Expansion Plan

The scheme has been launched initially as a pilot project in Madhira constituency of Khammam district. Based on its success and feedback from the ground, the government plans to expand the programme across Telangana to benefit a larger number of women SHGs.

Objectives

The main objectives of the Indira Dairy Programme are:

  • To increase household incomes of rural women
  • To promote self employment and entrepreneurship
  • To strengthen the rural dairy economy
  • To provide women with financial independence and social empowerment

In addition to financial support, the government will also provide training, veterinary support and market linkage assistance to ensure long-term sustainability of the dairy units.

The scheme is expected to play a crucial role in women empowerment and rural economic development, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to inclusive growth and social welfare.
