Telangana Government Approves ₹163 Crore to Clear Dues

The Telangana state government has directed the immediate release of ₹163 crore to clear long pending dues for Scheduled Caste (SC) and minority gurukuls, hostels and to support the midday meal scheme, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

Breakdown of Allocation

At a high level review meeting held at Praja Bhavan, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka instructed the Finance Department to fast track the release of funds. The breakdown includes:

  • ₹51.36 crore for pending Diet, Rent and Maintenance charges of SC gurukuls and hostels.
  • ₹47.61 crore for diet and rent dues of minority gurukuls and related institutions.
  • ₹63.92 crore to clear arrears under the mid day meal scheme.

Government’s Focus on Student Welfare

Bhatti Vikramarka recalled that upon taking office, the government had increased welfare allowances for gurukul and hostel students diet allowances by 40 percent and incidental charges by 200 percent reaffirming its commitment to improving living and learning conditions for students from marginalised communities.

He emphasised that students must receive Nutritious meals, proper hygiene and that the government prescribed menu must be strictly followed.

Oversight and Implementation

The Deputy Chief Minister ordered regular inspections of government run Educational institutions, Hostels and Gurukuls, directing that inspection reports be submitted without delay. He also instructed departments to address infrastructure gaps, hostel maintenance issues and supply shortages on a priority basis.

Officials from the Finance, SC/ST/Minorities Welfare and School Education Departments attended the review meeting.

Why It Matters

The release of funds is expected to ease financial strain on school administrators and hostel authorities who had faced months long payment delays. The move also highlights the state government’s commitment to ensuring that administrative lapses do not affect students education, nutrition or welfare.

By clearing these dues, the government seeks to strengthen trust in public education systems and guarantee better facilities for thousands of students across Telangana.
