Telangana Faces Doctor Shortage as 38% Posts Remain Vacant

Telangana is facing a growing healthcare challenge, with nearly 38% of government doctor posts lying vacant, putting pressure on public hospitals and affecting patient care across the state.

Officials say the shortage is especially severe in major government hospitals, where demand for medical services is high. With fewer doctors available, existing staff are often overburdened, leading to longer waiting times and increased stress on healthcare workers.

Patients visiting government facilities have reported delays in consultations, limited access to specialists and overcrowded wards. In rural and semi urban areas, the situation is even more difficult, as many health centres struggle to maintain basic services due to a lack of medical personnel.

Healthcare experts warn that such a large gap in staffing can directly impact the quality of treatment and patient outcomes. They stress the need for urgent recruitment, better working conditions and incentives to attract and retain doctors in the public sector.

The issue also highlights a wider concern about healthcare infrastructure, as public hospitals continue to serve a large section of the population, particularly those who cannot afford private care.

Authorities are expected to review the situation and take steps to fill vacancies, but for now, the shortage remains a major concern for both patients and medical staff in Telangana.
