Telangana Extends Sankranti Holidays for Schools

The Telangana state government has announced an extension of Sankranti festival holidays for all schools across the state, allowing students and teachers more time to participate in traditional celebrations.

Revised Holiday Schedule

As per the latest order, schools will remain closed from January 10 to January 16, 2026. Academic activities will resume on January 17, 2026.

Reason for the Extension

The decision was taken to accommodate Kanuma, an important part of the Sankranti festivities. January 16 has been declared an optional holiday, prompting the government to extend the vacation period to ensure uninterrupted festival celebrations.

Schools Covered

The holiday extension applies to all government, private and aided schools across Telangana.

Festive Significance

Sankranti is one of the most important festivals in Telangana, especially for farming communities. The extended holidays allow families to travel to their native places and take part in cultural and traditional events.

Advisory

Education officials have advised parents and students to note the revised dates and be prepared for the smooth resumption of classes after the holidays.
