Hyderabad: Telangana has emerged as one of India’s leading states in the development of environmentally sustainable buildings, with more than 1,200 projects registered under the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). The rapid growth reflects increasing awareness and commitment toward eco friendly construction and sustainable urban development across the state.
Green buildings are designed to reduce environmental impact by using energy efficient systems, water conservation methods, sustainable materials and improved waste management practices. These structures also aim to create healthier indoor environments for residents and workers while lowering long-term operating costs.
According to industry experts, cities such as Hyderabad have seen significant growth in green construction in recent years. Large residential projects, commercial complexes, IT parks and institutional buildings are increasingly adopting IGBC guidelines to improve sustainability standards.
The certification system developed by the Indian Green Building Council evaluates buildings based on factors such as energy efficiency, water use, materials, indoor environmental quality and overall environmental performance.
State officials say the expansion of sustainable infrastructure aligns with Telangana’s broader goals of promoting climate friendly urban growth and responsible resource use. Government initiatives encouraging green construction, along with rising interest from developers and investors, have helped accelerate adoption across the state.
Experts believe the increasing number of IGBC registered buildings will help reduce energy consumption, improve air quality, and support long-term environmental sustainability in rapidly growing urban areas.
With continued investment in green technologies and planning, Telangana is expected to further strengthen its position as a hub for sustainable and environmentally responsible construction in India.
