Sunetra Pawar Sworn in as Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister

Sunetra Pawar was sworn in today as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, marking a historic moment in the state’s political landscape. She becomes the first woman to hold this position in Maharashtra.

The oath taking ceremony was administered by the Governor in Mumbai, in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and other state leaders. Sunetra Pawar, a Rajya Sabha MP and long time social worker, assumed office shortly after being elected as the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) legislature party, following the recent passing of her husband and former Deputy CM Ajit Pawar in a tragic plane crash.

Political analysts highlight that her elevation reflects both continuity and change within the state’s leadership. Her role as Deputy CM is expected to influence key policy decisions and shape the future direction of the state government.

Sunetra Pawar’s appointment has drawn widespread attention nationally, with many hailing it as a historic step toward greater female representation in Maharashtra politics. Party members and political observers have emphasized the importance of her leadership during this critical period.

Officials said the government will continue to focus on ongoing development projects, governance priorities, and public welfare programs, while Sunetra Pawar’s leadership adds a new dimension to the state administration.
