Hyderabad: A 32 year old resident of Secunderabad has fallen victim to a large scale Online betting and cyber fraud, losing ₹75 lakh over a period of four years after being lured by operators of illegal betting and casino platforms.
According to the complaint, the victim was first contacted in 2021 through WhatsApp by unidentified individuals who persuaded him to participate in online betting games, including Cricket betting, Teen Patti, Casino games and Aviator (Flight) games. The fraudsters assured him of easy and guaranteed profits.
To gain his trust, the victim initially deposited ₹10,000, which reportedly generated small returns. Encouraged by these early gains, he was repeatedly induced to invest larger amounts. Between 2021 and 2025, the victim transferred a total of ₹75,00,000 through multiple transactions using Bank transfers, UPI payments, QR codes, and cash deposit machines, as instructed by the accused across various betting websites.
However, once the investments increased, the platforms allegedly blocked withdrawals and the victim began suffering heavy financial losses. Realising he had been cheated, the victim approached the authorities seeking registration of a case and a detailed investigation into the individuals and networks operating the illegal betting platforms.
Police officials stated that the acts involved amount to Cheating, Cyber fraud and Illegal online betting, all of which are punishable under relevant laws. An investigation is expected to trace the digital money trail and identify the operators behind the scam.
