The Telangana government has made it mandatory for all vehicles from autos and two wheelers to heavy goods carriers and construction vehicles to be fitted with certified reflective tapes and rear marking plates. The move aims to improve road safety and reduce accidents caused by low visibility, especially at night and in poor weather conditions.
According to the Transport Department, only tapes and plates manufactured by government approved suppliers will be permitted. Vehicles using non-certified or substandard products will not be granted registration or fitness certificates.
To strengthen enforcement, a QR based verification system will be introduced. This will allow authorities and even consumers to scan and confirm the authenticity of reflective tapes and plates. Officials explained that counterfeit or poor quality products have been in circulation, often failing to provide the required visibility, leading to accidents.
Transport authorities stressed that vehicle owners and dealers must ensure compliance before bringing any new vehicle on the road. Dealers and manufacturers have also been instructed to provide certified reflectors as part of standard fittings in new vehicles.
The government believes this measure will not only curb road accidents but also align the state with global road safety practices. Special drives and checks are expected in the coming weeks to ensure compliance across Telangana.
